The support team always looks forward to the back to school season. Maybe it’s the crisp fall air or the happy faces walking to school each morning. More likely, it’s when we get to help educators tackle another awesome year!
Read on for a step-by-step overview of the new support ticketing process and a few back-to-school tips to ensure smooth sailin’ with MasteryConnect.
How to Submit Support Tickets
Our team loves to interact with each of you, that’s why we’re excited to offer slick improvements to how you communicate with us. We’ve added the ability to manage your open support tickets from within the Help Center (no more trying to keep an eye on an email thread!).
The new support ticket process allows you to easily
- See your open tickets in a single view
- Make comments to your tickets
- Add screenshots
- View additional ticket details like status and assignee
Submit a support ticket by following these steps:
1. After you login to MasteryConnect, click Help below the main navigation bar.
2. The Help Center will open in a separate browser. Click on your name again and select My Requests.
3. From this page, you’ll be able to manage any submitted tickets. At a glance, you can see when the ticket was created, the last time there was any activity on it, and the current status.
4. Click the subject line of the ticket to open it.
5. Here, you can see your original request and all communication concerning it. If the ticket has been assigned, you’ll also see the name of the support team member who’s handling it.
6. When you’re done, click the MasteryConnect logo to return to the Help Center, or close the browser window to continue working.
Sometimes a super strict firewall can wreak havoc on the MasteryConnect experience. Please ensure your IT Wizards double-check that the websites listed in this help article are allowed free passage through your network.
GradeCam is magical—no question. But that magic is all made possible by the GradeCam plugin.
We always recommend you keep your GradeCam plugin updated to ensure optimal performance. To grab the latest plugin and test your GradeCam settings, visit: https://downloads.gradecam.com/
The Best Browsers
We always test our site using the latest versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Whenever possible, we recommend keeping your browser version updated. Full details about our supported browsers and hardware specs can be found here.

The countdown is over for the launch of the new premium version of our classroom engagement app, Socrative! Users from around the world have already jumped on board to be the first to experience the new functionality.
Socrative PRO gives you everything you love about the free app plus a heap of awesome new features to help you personalize learning, amp up engagement, and work formative assessment magic. Thinking about upgrading? Here’s five reasons why you’ll love Socrative PRO.
Each Socrative PRO account allows you to have 10 unique activity rooms. Run quizzes, polls, exit tickets, or Space Races at the same time to better manage multiple classes, remote and blended learning, and differentiated instruction. Create a room for each of your classes, divide students into groups, or assign homework activities—or do it all!
Large class, PTA meeting, or district-wide training on the horizon? No problem. You can accommodate up to 150 students in Socrative PRO rooms. With three times the student capacity of the free app, Socrative PRO is perfect for conferences, professional development, and grade-level assessments.
Save time and energy by uploading class rosters straight from a CSV or Excel file into Socrative PRO (or enter rosters manually, if you’d prefer). Restrict access to your rostered classrooms by requiring students to enter their personal ID number. And students will save time; they’re only required to enter their ID once into rostered rooms for immediate and future access.
Space Race Timer
Set the timer to have your Space Race end automatically. You can then more freely move around the classroom to answer questions, listen to students, and interact with the class.
More Features Coming this Fall
We’ll be rolling out new premium features to Socrative PRO users in the coming months. What should you expect? Well, instant quiz sharing, a searchable quiz community, and a silent hand raise feature—just to name a few. And you’ll soon get the ability to upload your own icon for a personalized Space Race experience (what will you race?!?).
Whether you’re a seasoned Socrative aficionado or you’re just discovering the formative assessment app, you’ll want to check out all the great new features you’ll get when you upgrade to Socrative PRO.

We have a rockstar Support Team eager to help when you need it. They can answer questions, solve issues, predict the future and provide insight into some of life’s great mysteries, including the origin of the ketchup packet. That was our own Rich Rasmussen, who was attempting to summit Annapurna, carrying only fresh tomatoes, vinegar and an empty fun-size M&M wrapper. Thank you Rich. The world is a better place because of you.
In addition to our extended support hours, we have developed a new HelpCenter packed full of articles and videos to ensure you get the most out of the MasteryConnect application.
To access the new HelpCenter or to contact the Support Team, navigate to your MasteryConnect home screen and click the Help sub-tab. From here you can either launch the help center or submit a support request.
We hope these changes will make your transition back to the classroom and into your trackers as smooth and easy as possible. Welcome back to school and we looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Keep on Trackin!
Director – Customer Support
PS. ok, Rich didn’t invent the ketchup packet, but he uses them frequently and provides awesome customer support.

Taylor Mali hit the radar of almost every educator in the country in 2006 when a video clip of his poem, “What Teachers Make,” went viral.
The tone of defiance and message of empowerment and deep devotion to students captured the imagination of the over 7 million people who have viewed it. Over one thousand high school and college students who have viewed Mr. Mali’s poetry slams or read his subsequent book, What Teachers Make: In Praise of the Greatest Job in the World, have directly credited Mr. Mali for inspiring them to become teachers.
So we are proud to announce that Taylor Mali will be featured at MasteryCon 2014, a conference devoted entirely to the principles of Mastery Learning and how they empower teachers to impact students. Mr. Mali will share Wednesday evening, July 16th, with us at a special champagne tent reception for MasteryCon attendees and their families. Each MasteryCon attendee will also be given a copy of Mr. Mali’s book signed by the author.

So, you’re moving to standards based grading. You’re probably trying to decide how to replace traditional grades, and pouring countless hours into a report card redesign. Like many before you, you’re probably feeling a little overwhelmed, and your goal of maintaining a single page is looking impossible… unless you change the margins and use a size five font. You may also be worried about the teachers. Will they embrace this positive change, this new approach to learning? It will take more time, and will require them to explain the changes to parents. Don’t forget about parents! Many of them will wonder how their children will apply for college without a grade point average.
If you travel the same path as many others that have tried to implement standards based grading with a report card reflective of that instructional approach, you’ll likely end up with complex multi-page documents that are difficult and time consuming for teachers to complete. Additionally, many proponents of standards based grading are surprised to learn that many parents are slow to embrace the changes and prefer the simplicity of a letter grade.
After many months of research, and working with our District partners around the country, we released our mastery-based report card last September. We continued listening to our District partners, in the field, as they were implementing the report card. We learned a great deal, and are excited to announce the release of the first mastery-based report card to preserve the use of letter grades. We know you might be a little skeptical, but take a minute to consider the benefits. Our letter grades are not like your parents’ letter grades, and likely not like yours. They are a much different, and a much more accurate reflection of the level of a student’s understanding. Therefore, much stronger. Rather than reflecting extra credit, or penalizing students for being late, or unexcused absences, creating a complex formula, or averages, they are based on mastery. Yes, mastery. What the student knows, relative to the standard. The mastery grades are a reflection of knowledge and understanding.
Creating the grades is much less confusing as they are automatically calculated in a teacher’s mastery tracker using the percent of standards mastered during the grading period. You have complete control over the criteria for determining the cut scores for the letter grades and the best part is that the report card links right to teachers’ trackers.
If you have already moved away from letter grades, that’s ok too; we can customize the report card to match your current grading system. There really is a better way. Take a minute to look over the new report card and imagine the possibilities.
